Ukraine
is the second European country in the territorial expansion
after Russia and occupies a strategic geographical position,
being the geographical center of Europe and an excellent way
of communication for trade routes with Asia. Ukraine is therefore
a bridge between
Europe and Asia, which in the coming years gains ever greater
economic and political importance. Before all this is added
considerable agricultural potential.
Ukraine is one of the largest producers in the agricultural
sector. Agriculture contributes as much as 8.7% (2006) in the
formation of internal gross revenue, employing 19% of active
working population. The crops most practiced are: wheat, corn,
sunflower and sugar beet.
Its land
is very fertile, there is, in fact, the famous "black
earth (Chernozem), which corresponds to 83% of cultivated
land. The climate is continental in the most part of the country,
while the southern part of Crimea is touched by a Mediterranean
climate that encourages the cultivation of vines and fruit
trees.
In Ukraine is cultivated large variety of cereals, among which
the main place has wheat, in addition millet, sorghum, corn,
rye, oats, barley and rice used in the food industry, livestock
and livestock waste sector. The real exigency is to generate
energy through agriculture, to be able then to gain its independence
from Russia.
Other agricultural
products that are widely used - potatoes, fruits and vegetables
in general. Finally, it should be noted the production of
flax and cotton.
Italy is the third largest buyer of goods exported from Ukraine,
including especially agricultural products, but also wood
and coal.
The forests,
concentrated mainly in the Carpathian Mountains, provide a
reasonable amount of wood annually in the volume of 15245800
m³ (2006). In south-eastern regions with large reserves of
coal and anthracite of the Donbass basin there are large deposits
of iron ore, concentrated and in the Mykolaiv region there
are the world's richest reserves of manganese. There are also
discrete quantities of titanium, bauxite, mercury and rock
salt. The subsoil of Ukraine, in fact, is rich in minerals
which represent a huge potential for the industry.
The development of the primary sector is, of course, one of
the factors that accompany the economic growth in Ukraine
and thus allows excellent investment in agriculture. Conzon
